Stephanie eases through to the National Female ABA Final
Posted: 30th May 2011 by Reggie Hagland in Club ResultsIslington Boxing Club’s Stephanie Louis-Fernand eased past Rowenna Stevenson from the Combined Services by a score of 31-8, in a contest at welterweight to book her place in the Female ABAE National (Class C) Final in two weeks time. The semi-finals were held at the Harlow Stadium on Sunday 29th May. Louis-Fernand started fast catching her shorter opponent with quick-fire punches as Stephenson looked to try and muscle her way in. Louis-Fernand, looking relaxed and confident kept up the pressure.
In the second, Stephenson tried to bully Louis-Fernand to the ropes, but was being picked off with sharp counters. A hard left to the body of Stephenson, had the army boxer wincing. A big right hand soon made Stephenson back off and try and re-group.
Going into the third and final round, Louis-Fernand led 22-6, so Stephenson had to go for broke. Stephenson came storming out, only to be met by a fierce volley of punches from Louis-Fernand. In the last minute, Louis-Fernand showed lovely footwork, as she moved round the ring and poked out the jab. The judges awarded Louis-Fernand the victory.
It is a fantastic achievement for Louis-Fernand to reach a national final after boxing for only 8 months. She looks to have a very bright future ahead of her.
The finals will be held in Mansfield on Sunday 12th June.

And the winner is Stephanie!
