Christy & Stephanie both win for IBC in Bristol
Posted: 11th June 2012 by Reggie Hagland in Club ResultsIslington boxing Club celebrated a memorable double win on the Barton Hill Show in Bristol (at the Artspace College) on Saturday 9th June.
Junior boxer Christy McCarthy’s constant aggression and work rate proving too much for young Damien Garrett (Trowbridge), in an entertaining contest. It was fast paced with McCarthy always just a step ahead, his right hand time and again finding the target. In the second, McCarthy threatened to overwhelm Garrett, but the Trowbridge boxer dug deep to hang on to the bell. The final session was all McCarthy as he swarmed all over Garrett who had no answer to the Islington boxer’s higher work rate. The Islington boxer won via unanimous decision.

In a female contest at Welterwieight, Stephanie Louis-Fernand comfortably outpointed former under 75 kgs ABAE national finalist Lucia Gaetani. Fernand, stood tall in the opener pumping out crisp jab, while Gaetani looked to get close and work inside. Gaetani did her best work in the second round, as she managed to neutralise Louis-Fernand’s jab, by keeping the action at close quarters. In the last, the eye catching punches, especially the long right hands from Louis-Fernand helped make up the judges minds. The judges decision was unanimous. The pair could meet again in the Haringey Box Cup later this month.
