IBC Competitive Amateur Boxing

Islington Boxing Club is one of North London’s premier amateur boxing gyms — home to a proud history of national and international champions, and a thriving team who continue to bring success to the Club today.

We operate from a purpose-built facility featuring three boxing rings across two floors, nineteen punch bags, six floor-to-ceiling balls, two speed balls, three bikes, two treadmills, two cross trainers, and a full range of training essentials including sparring gloves, headguards, protectors, skipping ropes, medicine balls and more. The gym also includes a fully equipped weights area and shadow-boxing mirrors throughout.

The Club welcomes men and women, boys and girls, encouraging everyone to participate in the sport regardless of ability or experience.

Formerly known as Islington Boys’ Club, the name was changed to reflect our inclusive values and ensure that the gym is a place where everyone feels welcome. Today, our ever-growing female squad is a vital part of the Club — inspiring members young and old and helping drive the next generation of champions.

Islington Boxing Club prides itself on ensuring that every boxer who competes for the Club is well schooled, technically competent, and fully prepared to represent us. Our competitive squad is consistently active throughout the season, and the Club maintains an impressive average win ratio of approximately 70% each year.

We continually strive for improvement — not only as a Club, but for each individual boxer who walks through our doors. The Club committee remains committed to enhancing our facilities, raising standards, and strengthening the profile of Islington Boxing Club. With a forward-thinking, boxing-driven committee, our progress over recent years reflects this commitment and ambition.

To participate in our Competitive Boxing Section, you must be a registered member of Islington Boxing Club.
We do not offer trials or non-membership options unless specifically agreed with management prior to your first visit.

On your first visit to the Club (and annually), you are required to complete a basic application form, which can be downloaded from the link below. Alternatively, the same form can be completed upon arrival. If choosing to complete the form in person, we recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your first session to avoid missing the start of the class.

Sparring gloves are essential for participation in all Competitive Boxing sessions. While the Club provides a supply of these, we strongly encourage boxers to purchase their own gloves either directly from the Club or from reputable boxing equipment specialists. Please speak to a member of staff for guidance on glove weight and size so we can recommend suitable options within your budget.
You will also require hand-wraps and a gumshield, both of which can be purchased from the Club (available in a range of colours).

All classes must be pre-booked and paid for in advance via our online booking system due to limited capacity.

Islington Boxing Club is proudly affiliated to England Boxing, the National Governing Body (NGB) for amateur boxing in England.
