Recreational – Keep Fit Boxing

Our Recreational Boxing and Fitness Classes, delivered by the Islington Community Sports Academy (ICSA), are designed for anyone looking to learn the fundamentals of boxing, improve their fitness, and support their mental wellbeing — without the intention of competing.

If you want to train like a boxer in a genuine boxing environment, using the same rigorous workouts but without full-contact sparring, then these sessions are perfect for you. Boxing, when taught correctly, is a complete full-body workout — engaging the legs, core, back, shoulders, and arms, while also providing an excellent cardiovascular challenge.

Our ICSA Recreational classes cover: Bag work, Skipping, Pads,  Technique drill, Conditioning and circuit training
Alongside achieving a high level of fitness, participants gain confidence, discipline, and valuable self-defence skills.

All sessions are delivered by qualified England Boxing coaches, each of whom is enhanced DBS checked, First Aid trained, and fully compliant with required Safeguarding training. Our coaches will push you to your potential while always being mindful of your individual ability and fitness level.

Please note that some of the class days, times and prices may have changed since this video was made a few years ago.

ICSA Recreational classes are the only sessions where membership is not required. However, if you are planning to attend regularly, becoming a member is highly beneficial, as members receive a reduced session price of approximately 35%.

Whether attending as a member or non-member, all participants must complete a basic application form on their first visit to the Club (and annually). This form can be downloaded by clicking here, or completed upon arrival. If completing the form in person, we recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your session to avoid missing the start of the class.

All classes must be pre-booked and paid for in advance via our online booking website due to capacity limits.

Boxing gloves are essential for all sessions. While the Club provides gloves for use, we strongly encourage participants to purchase their own—either directly from the Club or from reputable boxing equipment retailers. For advice regarding glove size and weight, please speak to us so we can recommend suitable options within your budget.
You will also require hand wraps, which are available to purchase from the Club in a variety of colours.

Our Recreational Classes are suitable for children aged 10 and above (children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult).
